What is this project?
This collaborative body of work includes artists from across the globe in one digital Journal with Sketchable App. The Black Book Project encourages artists to push the boundaries of their creativity and also influence each other, having only connected digitally across the internet.

The idea began in the Sketching and Drawing Discord,(now with over 300 members) and in discussions in the live streams on Behance while drawing with Sketchable App on the Surface Pro. Someone threw out the idea, someone else seconded it, then others added their enthusiasm for it and finally I said: Let's do it!

And when I asked the Sketchable Team about it, they were excited to see the art from artists around the world!

Why did we adjust the Journal exchange later
As we began the Project and exchanged the original Journal, we found out real quick how large the file size will grow as each new drawing is added to the Journal. The Sketchable team told me that would be a problem and I thought that somehow we could make it work.

By the time the Journal was picked up by the fifth artist, the Journal was over 3GB and not very easy to open in most systems! I tried opening a Journal from Prestonification with my Surface and an error notification showed up: Not Enough Memory!

So the Sketchable Team was correct. Exchanging the same Journal would be a problem. Solution: Fresh new journal for all artists.
If you need that Journal template, here it is:

Open in the Sketchable App and start drawing!

Where are we on the project
So far we have over ten drawings already completed and they look amazing! I am sharing each page in the Pass the Black Book IG page. https://www.instagram.com/passtheblackbook/

With this email, I am following up with artists who choose the dates when they would have time to draw their page. Let me know in case you are ready to work on yours.

Where are we going
I don't know. Actually I do know but I am writing out ideas that we can explore later. For now, I started an IG account where each week we share a page from the project.

Eventually I think we can see this art in an online art exhibit, a book, some postcards, the possibilities are endless!

First step is to complete as much art as possible. Which leads me to the next subject:
Who Owns the Art?
You!
I have curated countless art shows starting in the late 1990's, yup. A long time ago. This is the first project that is digital and worldwide. We will check in with each other every step of the way.

You have a right to use the art created for this project however you choose. It is yours to do what you please. I only ask that you share with the hashtag so we can also re-share and celebrate your art skills. #PassTheBlackBook

Send me your Sketchable Art!!!
If you are drawing with Sketchable now, and would like to have your art shared by Sketchable, then please send it to me! dan@artisking.org and Sketchable will share it on IG, FB and Twitter. Please include your social media handle.

If you are ready to tackle your Sketchable Drawing, then download the Journal template here:
https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1iEYLKK3h6tMxXGSntvkSOvLL7DL704SQ?usp=sharing

Open in the Sketchable App and start drawing!

I started an IG account to also share the artwork in the order it is received, starting with the art we have now and will continue to post once a week, on a Monday, the art from this project.
check it: https://www.instagram.com/passtheblackbook/

Please reach out if you have questions, suggestions or want to hop on Discord and draw together.
