This summer Art Is King caught up with Keef Cross to hear about his latest project: DayBlack. A comic book AND a film thats been in the works for some time now and finally coming to fruition in 2014. I asked him a few questions on his art beginnings, his creative process and where does the inspiration come from. somewhere in the conversation we discussed his website and as of now, KeefCross.com and DayBlackFilm.com are online and ready to wow the world with the art of Keef Cross.

Check out the special DayBlack Screening Nov 22nd at The Way Of The Artist Group Art Show in Buckhead at Atlanta Tech Village. Not only will you get the first look at the DayBlack Film, but Keef will also have the DayBlack comic book issues on deck plus lots of great art from over 20 artists in ATL and not to mention the KidRobot giveaways from RevolvSkate.com and the year subscription to Adobe Creative Cloud giveaway by the Adobe User Group. Art Is King 2014: Art Business Discussion Panel pt 7
Art Mentors -  The Value of the Veteran Professional Artist
Tuesday October 28,

Full Recap Below byShelby A Oates of SAO Speaks Volumes

Mentorship. The act of guidance via exceptional acceptance to endorse evolution and betterment of society, to build community through genuine love and support. The 8-week platform provided by Art is King through Daniel & Aisha Flores have modeled the epitome of such. Searching for True North on the wrong compass had me spinnin’ and all I needed were the tools to reset, the tools that were just underfoot, but without a beacon could have never been seen. The shine of knowledge, inspiration, resources & simple acceptance through The 2014 Conference Series has allowed awakening to not only who believes in me, but whom that belief nurtures as I pass it forward. The movement is real and the front lines are consolidating.

Regardless of your background, despite any series of events that may or may not have defined you, the artist, the creativity, the entrepreneur will surface. Whether you have art school credentials like Danny Sanzone who found SCAD success through self-motivation and initiative or if you have accepted the realization that reinvention of self is paramount for true growth like Mike Ames or if you have roots that circled around understanding that the militant corporate cubicle of harnessed artistic creativity is not personally conducive to innovation, such as the steps taken by FlavaDave McLeod, you have found #thewayoftheartist. However, the key is accepting and finding confidence in the paths that have led you and the mentors that have molded. You are never alone; you must simply speak for self, provide persistence once guidance is sought and remain present to develop your own progressive environment.

The panel ensures awareness that mentors are not necessarily marked as such, remain eyes wide to the reality that lessons come from all examples surrounding, positive or negative. The survival of scenarios that you find yourself working to escape depends on Mr. Sanzone’s pillar that “you can never run out of art to learn” and when that “right mentor doesn’t …come along” walk the walk. Mr. Ames knows, through his ability to find order from chaos that has laid foundation to his independent business & expertise, that you must take the risk to build, to find mentorship through a mindful approach and sharp aspirations.

FlavaDave concludes the cypher of strong advice to stay current and relevant through the information age and digital dialogue. He concurs to approach people, apply virtual mentorship and thrive on the inspiration that ATL has been voted the #1 spot for working artists; so, #PUTINWORK. “Find someone that will hold you accountable” and remember, as Danny has experienced as well, the window of conversation with a potential mentor might be fleeting, but the relationship that can spark from the first connection can be life changing.

As DTM exhibits his mentorship through the line of inquiry of this panel and several before, as his lovely wife Aisha holds down as backbone from behind the curtain of sorts, The Flores Fellowship follows fortitude with force through DaCreativeGenius’s cap off to this week’s collab urging us to shatter glass ceilings and prove your value through the questions presented in the search for mentorship & progress as if that one question is the only chance to launch your goals.

SAO knows with the struggle comes the birth, the enlivening that the challenges of the everyday present themselves to each & every, but marinating in the panel’s wisdom to pay attention to previous work to measure progress, I universalize self-advocacy as the first step to finding mentorship. Do not hesitate to mentor those that approach, find the confidence in self that they have found in seeking your guidance and paint the picture through your actions that others would want to emulate. Create as if others are always waiting on your next move and approach those you seek as mentors as if you may never meet again.

"It’s not about money, it’s about sustaining so you can keep creating."

-D. Sanzone
