Fox Theatre

The Hip Hop Nutcracker is an evening-length production performed by a supercharged cast of a dozen all-star dancers, DJ and violinist. Through the spells cast by the mysterious Drosselmeyer, Maria-Clara and her Nutcracker prince, travel back in time to the moment when her parents first meet in a nightclub. Digital scenery transforms E.T.A. Hoffman's story of a palace of sugarplums into a romance set in 1980s Brooklyn. The dance work celebrates love, community and the magic of New Year's Eve.

The Hip Hop Nutcracker is directed and choreographed by Jennifer Weber, artistic director of the all-female hip-hop crew Decadancetheatre in Brooklyn. It is adapted to today's New York by Mike Fitelson, executive director of United Palace of Cultural Arts (UPCA) - the work's original producer - and includes hip-hop interludes remixed and reimagined by DJ Boo and an on-stage electric violinist.

Whether the goal is to help people save more money, get in shape, cut down on electricity usage, or learn a new language, our core pursuit is the same:

(tickets sales end on December 2nd)

What will happen at the event?
The Imaginary Million is an art auction + cocktail party + art party + dance party + fundraiser = BIG TIME FUN.  Event guests will get to view artwork from 100 of Atlanta’s hottest artists – photography, painting, sculpture and more!  Some of the guests (the artists) will even have the opportunity to bid on the artwork of their peers with imaginary currency they are provided by WonderRoot.  The non-artists guests will have their own artwork that they can purchase.  There will be a DJ, live art, silent auction, live auction, cocktails and hors d’oeuvres.
On the evening of the event, the 100 participating artists will take part in a peer-to-peer style auction.  At the beginning of the evening, each artist will receive $10,000 in currency created uniquely for The Imaginary Million. With this “money”, the artists will purchase the work of their peers in both silent and live auctions. At the end of the night, artists will take home the piece or pieces they have won, symbolizing an economic exchange. However, no real money will have changed hands – only an imaginary million.
